Eye Lights is a project tailored towards the visually impaired enabling them to navigate and participate in the world around in a more independent fashion and comfort. Walking canes create obstacles for other nearby individuals in the vicinity, as well as a complete neglect of the obstacles from the ankle up. With no way to establish confirmation that an area is obstacle free from head to toe, walking canes are outdated and technically unsafe for the user. Eye Lights is an ultrasonic system that detects the obstacles around the front 180 degrees of along the entire height of a user. This electric system conserves space, weight, time, and worry; unlike a walking cane. By using light to communicate with the user, the system efficiently spares the user from obstruction through their day to day life.
